Head south through the memorial plaza, past the Oculus, through Battery Park. Castle Clinton is the round sandstone fort at the waterfront tip. Arrive by 12:10 PM.

~25 min ride. Stops at Liberty Island, then Ellis Island. Allow 3–4 hours total for both islands. The Statue of Liberty Museum (ground floor) has the original 1884 torch. Last return ferry typically departs ~5:30–6:00 PM.

Evening — Brooklyn Bridge Walk

Step-by-step: Battery Park → Brooklyn Bridge → Back

From Battery Park: Walk 25 min north along the East River waterfront (pleasant, great harbour views). Or take the 4 5 subway from Bowling Green (1 stop) to Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall in 3 min.

Find the pedestrian entrance: On the Manhattan side, the walkway ramp is at the corner of Centre St & Frankfort St. Look for the large stone Gothic towers. Walk up the ramp — this takes you above the traffic lanes.

Stay on the right (pedestrian) side. Cyclists use the left lane. The wooden-planked walkway is ~30–40 min across at a relaxed pace. Best skyline views are from the midpoint and from the Brooklyn side looking back.

DUMBO detour (worth it): Descend into DUMBO, Brooklyn. Walk 1 block to Washington Street for the iconic framed-bridge photo. 5 minutes, unforgettable.

Return to Manhattan: Take the A C train from High St–Brooklyn Bridge station 2 stops to Fulton St / WTC (~5 min). Then PATH back to Exchange Place.

You'll walk 8–12 miles per day. Comfortable shoes are non-negotiable. The Brooklyn Bridge walk and Central Park stroll will thank you.

⏰ Timing

Museums and major attractions are least crowded first thing in the morning (opening time) and on weekday afternoons. Avoid midday Saturday crowds.
